Eike Hello, fellow stranger. Welcome to my little homepage. Yes, it is another one in the millions; though if you are not that much of a stranger to me, you might find it interesting nevertheless ...

If you have any comments, thoughts, suggestions, or just a friendly hello to share, please drop me a line.

At the moment, not that many worthwhile things are on here ... I still need to get all of the former content back into shape -- no promises on when that will happen, though. Just bear with me.

Another seven months gone, another webpage-update :)

Not a lot happened, really. Well, I got older. They tell me I´m now 21. Also, I finished my third term in university, and worked as a tutor/T-A for the programming course (Java) for that time.

We also started on our (group of 10) Software Project, which will be graded for two terms. The first was rather interesting (in the sense that it´s not exactly what we´d have wanted it to be), the second should prove more challenging though (starting off with a Proseminar). Also on the menu are Soft Skills, Hands-on work in Technical Computer Science, General Economics 3+4, and possibly others. Makes for an interesting summer :)

As for life outside of university, practically nothing changed; some things happened, but not much noteworthy. Well, I did get to read a lot (lots of computer-related stuff, as well as some more fantasy, lots more Terry Pratchett, a couple manga-volumes and way too many periodicals).
TV-wise, it´s still ludicrous amounts of Anime, the weekly dose of Buffy, Farscape, and Alias, and a movie every now and then.

Also, I got to see Nightwish in Berlin, which was awesome. Really awesome. Hopefully I´ll be able to see them again :)
Contrary to popular belief, I´m also capable of rearranging my room (which I´m in the process of, but somehow the drive to do it has declined since I do not need to learn for exams anymore. Ah well, it will get done. :)

Some may have noticed that the page here changed a few things as well; Namely, the Projects section has been added. For now there are only some BitTorrent-related things on there; that´s what I´ve been spending some time on in the past few months. There are some more things to come there (some sections are completely blank, they will be filled) in the future.
Also new is the Wishlist, where I´ll quite shamelessly ask what I want and where to get it; I don´t expect it´ll do much good ... if nothing else, it will help me keep track of what to buy when I actually have money :)
I have finally realized that I´m ost likely never going to get around to translating all these pages. Therefore the German flag is greyed out and will just be activated for pages that DO have both versions (which are, at the moment, approximately none.)
You might see some other updates throughout the week, depending on whether I get around to it. Maybe some new pictures, as well :-P

Anyway. All new things come to an end, so I´ll probably let this update go stale as well ... While I like to think that updates are forthcoming soon, past experiences suggest otherwise :)

So long,
  Eike

July 30, 2002

Nearly nine months have passed. That´s a long time.

This is still my homepage, so I thought I´d give it some attention and post an update on what´s going on on my end ...
I still live in Germany, have just gone through my first year of university (nicely enough all scores were passing ones :) and am facing about 2 months of time off campus. I´m telling myself to get a job for the time. Maybe I will actually listen ... More on that later.
From July 13 to July 15, I helped organize the Lanparty Hude, where roughly 280 people attended; I was supposed to do network and server administration as well as network security. All in all it was lots of fun, and from what we heard, the guests thought so too. There are quite a few pictures up on wirebrain.de, a server Patrick, Andre, Michael, and myself rented and which I administrate (in addition to TsunamiHost, on which this site is hosted; that server just moved a few miles from Genotec to Init 7).
Which brings me to the next topic : www.ngoabi01.de (also in wirebrain ;) is a board for the people that graduated from my former school in 2001; It´s closed to the public, but maybe it will be of interest to some of you ;-)

As for this site, the "People" and "Egosurfing" sections are now online. Nothing big, nothing all too interesting, just some basic homepage material. German translations have still not been done, and I have a sleeping suspicion that they never will get here. I´ll just have to hope everybody here at least understands English :)

Of course, one gets to see a lot in 9 months -- and I am no exception. While I did not visit the movie theatre all that often (maybe three times, all counted), I did get to see tons of Anime. Currently I´m finishing up Rurouni Kenshin (at episode 70), but Chobits, Ai Yori Aoshi, Hellsing, Slayers, Onegai Teacher, and some Miyazaki films (Mononoke Hime, Sen to Chichiro no Kamikakushi, etc.) got their fair share of time as well. Nowadays I even understand some sentences or even conversations in Japanese, which makes them all that much more fun to watch. On the other side I got to watch some new episodes of Farscape (which, lacking a better term, rocks), while Buffy & co are currently on ice (in between seasons).
Literature has unfortunately not gotten much attention these past few weeks; nevertheless I did manage to devour another two Discworld novels, a few fantasy-books, lots of university-material, and loads of text from the Internet. I hope to get a few reviews online later; knowing me, that might never happen (unless asked for ;)

Some links for the bored : How much I type, what our computers are doing (RC5, OGR-25), where Computer Science students at my university hang out. That´ll have to be enough for today :)

I hope this won´t be the last update for the next 9 months ;)

December 4, 2001

So I decided to clean up my room finally (it looks like a site of anarchy gone rampant, at least according to my mother). Found some things I have been looking for for some time now (watch). Also found some things I wish I had not found (old school materials). All in all, it looks a LOT better in here. Maybe this time it will stay that way (yeah right!) :)

My Sister turned 18 on Friday. She had a big party on saturday, with lots of friends over for the weekend. It has been fun; although pretty stressful. One of these days, her computer will be finished and she'll be able to read this page, so I better not go into details :)

I finally decided to put the page online in its current form. It is still nowhere near where it used to be in size, but at least it's marginally functional (as in, there is maybe one broken link and no more :).

University is still going strong (actually, going stronger by the day). I just finished doing the current "Algorithmen & Datenstrukturen" and Java exercises, to be followed by the various Math problems and some Japanese vocabulary. Fun, fun. :)

ttyl,

November 17, 2001

Hmm ... It has been almost a year since I last updated, almost 9 months since this page was last online, almost 5 months since I decided to redo it all, almost two months since I started studying computer science, just about two days since I finally got around to this, and it will be a long time before it's all finished and shiny again -- but one has got to start somewhere.

I´m not going to bore you with every tidbit of change that has happened with me; just the fast rundown : in April, I graduated from school (got my Abitur), in June, I moved to my own little appartment (in the same house though), in August, I turned 20. In October, I started studying computer science at the University of Oldenburg. Funny how you can sum up 11 months in one sentence.

Technical stuff is important as well : This page has been taken off the net somewhere around January 2001, since the previous host disappeared -- and I did not have much motivation to move it. I got the kefrost.net Domain in August; the page is now hosted at TsunamiHost, which I do sysadmining for.
This page now discontinues support for older browsers -- it uses the current standards by the W3C, namely CSS2 and xhtml 1.1. This means that it will display very well on just about any standards-compliant browser (including Mozilla, Opera, Konqueror, Lynx, and Internet Explorer). It also means that if you are viewing this page with an old version (i.e. Netscape 4.xx) it will look a lot less appealing; sorry.
The computers at home have gotten a few upgrade as well. kankoku (that´s the gateway & server) now has the amd k6-III 400 CPU, 512mb RAM, and around 75gb of HDD space. fangorn now features a Duron 800, 512mb RAM, and 30gb HDD space, as well as a GeForce 2 MX-400. All in all, very good workhorses.

On to more current things : Being a student again certainly is fun -- especially since I get to do what I'd do anyway. I also enrolled in a Japanese class, which is a lot of fun as well. Who knows, there'll probably be a Japanese version of this page as well.

At any rate, thanks for stopping by.
